Leaving No One Behind: Urban Poverty Traps in Sub-Saharan Africa
Teresa Janz, PhD Fellow, UNU-MERIT
While urban population growth is considered a significant drive of overall poverty reduction, the share of urban poverty has increased. However, little is known about the state and persistence of poverty in urban areas. The speaker will present a study that investigates urban poverty within the theory of poverty traps analyzing consumption paths among urban households in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa with large urban populations and fast urban population growth. The presentation will delve into the methodology used, the results obtained and a discussion of its policy implications.
This webinar is hosted by the Technical Network on Poverty Analysis (Think-PA) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and is open to all.
